In 2024, sustainability established itself more than ever as a deep conviction guiding each of our decisions. Beyond legal and regulatory constraints, the way we think about and design our real estate projects has evolved significantly in recent years.
The annual publication of our environmental, social and governance practices illustrates this approach through five key themes: mobility, innovation, well-being, sustainability (materials and energy) and circularity.
To embody these themes, we gave the floor to internal experts chosen not only for their technical skills, but because they deeply believe in the topics they defend. Their personal commitment brings our ambitions to life. Each conviction is then put into perspective with a flagship project, located in Belgium, Luxembourg or Poland, that concretely illustrates our actions.
For our CEO, Jacques Lefèvre, this approach reflects the responsibility of a sector undergoing major change:
"We are facing a major societal challenge: drastically reducing the carbon footprint of the building sector. This reinforces the idea that sustainability must be considered from the design stage. This means making deliberate choices, sometimes more costly but necessary, in areas such as the selection or reuse of materials, responsible water management, respect for urban biodiversity and the optimization of energy consumption." Jacques Lefèvre, CEO BPI Real Estate
In Poland, where environmental challenges are significant, Béranger Dumont highlights the importance of bringing eco-design closer to the concrete concerns of residents and investors:
"Our role is also to raise awareness. Clients want tangible benefits such as comfort, energy savings and long-term value. That is why we must demonstrate that sustainability and performance go hand in hand." Béranger Dumont, Managing Director BPI Real Estate Poland
This shared conviction is reflected in all our projects, which are fully assessed at the design stage. If a minimum score is not achieved, the developer and their team must revisit their plan to improve the project’s rating and long-term resilience: reuse of certain materials or finding new low-carbon alternatives, improved insulation, preservation of the existing structure and identity, optimization of energy performance, and more. The levers for action are numerous.
For Jalal Chahine, circularity, for example, is above all a long-term vision:
"Circularity is about a change of perspective: each material has a history, a potential and a future. By adopting this approach, we are not just constructing buildings, we are preparing their future transformation." Jalal Chahine, Sustainability Expert BPI Real Estate
With this document, BPI is not merely stating ambitions: we are affirming our convictions and showing how we applied them to our 2024 projects, thanks to the commitment of the men and women who contribute every day to building more sustainable and resilient cities.
